Door micro switch diagnosis

Featured Replies

Octavia Mk1 03 VRS Estate

I have a problem with an intermittant flickering of the interior light and the dash symbol when the doors are open. I'm suspecting it could be a micro switch, but would like opinions based on below:

The lights do not come on / flicker when all the doors are closed, although there is a clicking noise from an electrical box below the dashboard, just right of stearing column.

The electric windows don't work when the fault occurs.

I took off the door panel of drivers door today to check the electrical box that is susceptable to water ingress, required a clean up, but this is not the cause, as it was still clicking when disconnected.

How can I tell which doors micro switch is faulty, if this is the reason?

Thanks

Sounds like the CCU (Central Convenience Unit) is about to die. That's where the relay clicking is coming from.

Try opening one door at a time. Try opening the tailgate. Do you get the same fault whatever you open?

Do you have aftermarket remote locking? If so, try disconnecting it.

You could try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes. Sometimes the CCU gets confused.

Hi there it does sound like you have a faulty micro switch. You could try spraying WD40 on the door lock mechanism in the door, and exercise it a few times. Sometimes the micrositch gets intermittent on the cambered wheel. This has worked a few times for people. Failing that you could follow my guide to stripping the lock down to replace the microswitch. which is in the techi section. Here

good luck.

I've opted for progressing the CCU.

On my 5th Car breakers yard I found an Mk I Octavia. Either we're very good drivers, or there is a big demand for spares.

I've had trouble with getting the facia off ( there seems to be a screw beneath the light switch that I can't get too) Does the light switch simply pull out?

Tomorrow I'm hoping my problems will be solved, else it's back to the WD40.......
