Bye bye Fab

Featured Replies

Right, sad day for me but got rid of my Fabia a few weeks ago.

Kept having issues with the brakes which eventually escalated into a full blown crisis when the car`s brakes failed to slow it down much coming up to a queue of traffic and I had to yank the handbrake to stop.

It went back to the dealer quite a few times but never seemed to have any brake issues when their engineers looked at it or test drove it.

Decided it wasnt worth the hassle or scares to keep it so dealer brought it back off me.

So if anyone sees it out and about, its not me driving it anymore!

Sorry you've parted company with your furby, so what now then? What chariot are you looking at?

For the moment, a W-reg Polo SDi saloon - cheap, chearful and very fuel efficient. Will be saving my pennies up to get a next-gen 1.6T vRS estate or possibly an S1.

S1 nah!!, it's just a skoda with an extra 10 k on top, the

new 1.6 turbo charged VRS will be so much better than the mk2 it will have the new chassis and the engine will be better , although the 1.4 is a great engine it's does come with is problems!

Yeah think that will be the plan - dealer offered me a swap for their red Monte TDi demo but I`ve kinda been put off the current Furby because of this. Hoping the next-gen will be a better car.

Definate will be better, I tend to change my cars every couple of years, so not a problem but some of the guys with the mk2 have spent good money and it's a great car for sub 15k but the mk3 will be summat else!

Lol yeah, and the mk4 will be even better. And as for the mk 5...

Exactly. If it wasn't there would be something seriously wrong. Hot hatches have come on leaps and bounds in the last few years. Who would have ever thought 20 years ago that we could buy hot hatches stock with 300 bhp. Wouldn't mind an Octavia vRS with that much power in a few years

Mind you, EVO magazine just ran an interesting comparison between the mk2 Fiesta XR2 and the current Mountune Fiesta Zetec S (the hottest available current Fiesta), and the 1988 model won hands-down for sheer fun and connectedness. A white XR2 was my first hot-hatch so I read with interest as I always hated that Ford 5 speed box, but the reviewer raved about the whole car.

I know which I'd rather have a crash in though, and I guess that's part of the trade-off.

You'll have plenty of time on your hands to save up for that one I'd imagine...... :giggle:

Ha ha, yeah. Had a go in a A1 1.4T quattro and that was a bi of a beast -felt a LOT faster than the vRS and gripped like a limpet. Would think the S1 will be a bit of an animal.

Mind you, if something I really really like turns up before then I would get that instead of waiting. Thinking maybe a green vRS wagon once they hit the 3 year old stage and the depreciation is bottoming out.

So, 22K for a hot hatch supermini. Now that's what I call crazy. Is it really that much faster. It's more or less the same performance as the fabia I think, with the same engine. At least now we know that the 1.4 twincharge can be mated to a six speed manual box.

You can get a 'quattro' A1 currently?! :wonder:

I didn't know you could but is is coming somewhere. Is it not in the A3?

Hi Ross, Just seen your post. Wow...what a shame you've had an issue that hasn't been solved. Sorry to see you go from the Skoda flock, but hopefully NOT from the site. You've been a good contributor. Good luck mate!

It will be soon, but Ross says he's driven one!

A3 uses the haldex setup as will the A1 - which Audi keep insisting on calling 'quattro' but its effectively a four wheel drive system also.

Good thing abou being able to blag a freebie with a mate in the motor journo trade. ATM the 1.4TQ is a "prototype" demonstrator, think its due in full sale latr this year early next. First time I have asked as I am not bothered about going out to see bigger/more expensive cars. Quite happy with "just" hot hatches.

And it feels a LOT faster than the book suggests it is. Bit numb because of the AWD but seriously rapid. Think from what I hav been told the Quattro and Haldex systems are very similar but the Quattro system is effectively the "boffy older brother" version - its a bit more clever and a bit quicker to react than Haldex.

Just a shame the A1 is such a BORING car to look at - even the S1 isnt going ot look that special unless they go RS3 style with it (although even that not that special!)

Wont be leaving the site no, will still be on here to keep an eye on you goings on. Who knows, might even pop stuff up about the Polo now and then!
