Cure found for the Fab dashboard Rattle

Featured Replies

Anybody who has the dashboard rattle on the left hand side of the dash around the glovebox area in the Fab vRS a cure has been found. A Skoda ATM came to Gorner Skoda in Warrington. All I know is the dash had to come out. All my thanks must go to Gorners Skoda for their help I now have a rattle free Fabia

I sometimes get this, and my Fab's due for its 10k service soon at Gorners. Did it take long, 'cos I'd do both at the same time? Presumably you had it done under warranty?

Yes the work was done under warranty, It took three days to fix But remember they had to find the fault first and then fix it. I would talk to service at Gorners in Warrington they are best placed to advise you.

I had a similar problem with my Elegance 2.0 that required the dashboard coming out - also a couple of days in the garage. When I described the problem to the dealer, he knew what it was straightaway - without listening even - and booked it in. Apparently, there is an attachment bracket somewhere in the middle that shears off. This is not just a VRS problem.

If its the dashboard mount in the centre, the only thing that I took out was the centre dashboard vent assembly. Gonna have to have a go soon, as mine's started rattling a little like furby mk1 now. :(

When my car is cold, the dash rattles like a gud 'un, but after a few miles, when the car has warmed up, only the most severe of road bumps makes it rattle. This is both puzzling and extremely irritating!

Taking the vent out can work if all you need to do is adjust the alignment of the centre bracket, but if its bust the dash comes out.

Not a massive job though once you have done a few. But book warranty time is just over an hour and a half to remove and refit the dash! Only just managed it but it was hard work.

The only rattle that I have seems to be coming from the centre of the dash, but goes away when I apply pressure to the 'mars bar holder' thingy located at my right knee.

Booking the car in anyway, as I noticed the other day that my plastic engine cover has come away at the top, next to the windscreen.

Unless its meant to be unattached?

Should be a circular shaped roundy bit of rubber there, that the claw bit at the top of the engine cover slots into, then it should just shove down at the bottom left and right.

I've lost count just how many rattles my vRS seems to have. Here's a list, any cures?

Glovebox type rattle (unsure if it's the CD's I keep in there).

Flapping from the rear of the car (extremly annoying), had the dealer look at this and they adjusted something and said it was the seat brackets? although it's not as it is still there and it sounds like a tailgate clip is broke or worse, something from under the car is flapping around.

Rear seat rattle, this is an on and off type of thing but makes itself heard on rough roads, I think the dealer actually created this problem when trying to fix the one above.

Drivers seat creak, really annoying as I have no idea where it comes from. Probably the most annoying of all problems as I can't see how this can be fixed.

Rattle near the drivers centre pillar, unsure if this is the speakers (same on the passenger side).

Dashboard rattle, either around the dashpod or at the very front of the dash on the drivers side, or the glove compartment for storing drinks near the steering wheel, maybe all 3.

Today I also got my first squeek on the passenger rear suspension, very annoying.

All in all tbh my Mondeo (new shape) was much better built and never rattled once, never groaned or squeeked and just worked. I think it's the vRS's suspension which is creating all of these problems as it's just too unforgiving, and the tyres dont cushion the car at all. so it's rattling to pieces.

Just my 2 pence worth.

If anyone has rattles from the door cards, its worth checking the screws behind the door grab handle (where the window switches are etc)

Theres two screws that should support the middle of the door card - mine were missing! They were there on my last car so perhaps they are not on newer fabias as part of a cost/time saving exercise!

I developed the same problem a month or so ago (the car is about 3 years old). The garage checked the seat mountings, and they were OK. I think it must be in the seat somewhere. It is difficult to find because I cannot consistently make it creak with a particular movement. Anyway, I get a new Fabia in six weeks, so that could be another selection of noises to check out.

Yeah I get the driver's seat creak too :) seems to some from the material behind the VRS badge.

Also seem to have a rattle coming from the plastic casing that covers the speedo etc and also from the tray below the steering column...anyone else got this??

Will mention it all to my dealer and leave it with them over the weekend until they are ALL GONE.

My creak comes from under my backside. I'll have to get it looked into ( ... the seat, I mean)

Karlos - I have that same rattle from the dashboard, if you press it it goes away... gonna get it looked at, also seat seems to be rocking a bit, think it needs tightening!

I think there is more than one rattle that goes away when you press the dashboard. Mine went in to get that bracket fixed. When I collected it, there was another, lighter rattle. I found that they hadn't tightened up a couple of screws underneath near the glovebox.

This is a common problem to which there seems no cure. Several Briskodans (including me) have had the seat frame lubricated then replaced altogether without success. I intend at some point to have the seat out and soak the whole lower framework in lubricant. But if anyone out there has found a cure, speak up!

This rattle has been driving me mad for the last few weeks, has anyone got any details on the "fix"

Yeah I need two hands to press the dash to stop the rattle, can be tricky at times ;)

I've got the little glovebox area rattle, also the one under the steering column. Oh and the squeeky seat!

I've also got one that no-one has mentioned. I've got a rattle from the rear passenger side trim, above the seat (the 'A' bit). Only does it when going over medium sized bumps!
