Desperately need help buying and installing BOLERO STEREO

Recommended Posts

Hi!! I am varun from Delhi, India and i have a skoda octavia II facelift 2010 model with skoda swing player which has rear parking sensors integrated in it.

I want to install the columbus navigation system but as it is too expensive for my budget i have decided to go with bolero. I have lots of confusions regarding buying and installing it and i would really really appreciate if anyone could help me out.

The confusions:-

1) Bolero is not available anywhere in the indian market so i started searching the ebay uk and found two listings. the links are:-

a) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Skoda-Bolero-Car-Radio-2011-/220784092367?pt=UK_Audio_TV_Electronics_In_Car_Entertainment_GPS_In_Car_Audio_Players_PP&hash=item3367c1e4cf#ht_724wt_1139

B)http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320703891119#ht_720wt_1139

I am totally new to buying things on ebay, so are these units good? and should i be looking out for any kind of defects because i am in india and once i get them shipped, i won't be able to return them. There is also a big difference in the price, so should i be carefull of something over here?

2) After making the purchase and getting it shipped to india, how do i go about installing it in terms of coding because i want navigation and the rear parking sensors to work with the system and i am also planning on installing a back camera and front sensors, so how to get the coding for all that?

3) I have heard that every skoda stereo has a security code which has to be entered at the time of installation. So will i get the code with the stereo or will it be unlocked as it is a used piece?

Guys i really need help doing this and i would be very greatfull if someone can help me.

thanks

varun

£150 is more like market value. I paid a bit less than that for mine. There's a good thread on here about upgrading to the Bolero. You may need to upgrade your gateway if it's earlier than revision K I think. The Bolero doesn't have navigation....

Thanks for the replies

@gadgetman over here skoda dealerships are not educated with the codings and all. they are more of mechanics than engineers. So, i can't depend on the dealerships for any help at all. Having said that, will i need anything else from the buyer other than security code and the device to install it here?

and what else will i need once i have the device to install it perfectly?

@dan yeates can you please post the link to the thread about upgrading to bolero. I can't find it.

thanks

@dan thanks for the link.

So, what i can gather from reading the above thread is that in order to fit a bolero i would have:-

1) to get a bolero with the security code from the seller.

2) no requirement for a gateway as mine is a 2010 model octavia, probably similar to pz1811 over here and his rev is S, so probably mine would be same as we are in the same country, so will bolero work fine?

3) it wont support reverse camera and wont display rear parking sensors on the screen but beeps will be there.

4) i will have to do some VCDS programming. (for which i have no knowledge)

my octavia dosen't have climatronic A/C or a MFSW and it has the basic MDI which displays just the basic things such as distance to empty, outside temperature etc and it dosen't even have any animation like the car door opening and all. So, its not a Maxidot i should say.

MY QUESTION IS THAT IS THERE ANYTHING THAT I SHOULD LOOKOUT FOR BEFORE BUYING THE STEREO? SHOULD I CHECK SOMETHING OR ASK SOMETHING ELSE FROM THE SELLER (OTHER THAN THE SECURITY CODE) WHICH SHOULD BE THERE? CAN I GET IT TO WORK WITHOUT THE USE OF VCDS AND IF NOT, CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN WHAT CODING HAS TO BE DONE OR GUIDE ME TO A THREAD WHERE I CAN READ ON THE INFO.

if any one could help me over here it would be greatly appreciated..

thanks

Add £100 to that price Dan - the Bolero is a better system that people realise. When you consider what you are getting; high-res colour touchscreen, 6 CD changer, Phone Connectivity, SD card slot etc etc, even £250 is a complete bargain!
