Instrument Lights.

Featured Replies

Noticed on my car that in dull areas the instrument needles are very clear, (they look lit), but the speedo and rev counter are not, this got me wondering if the instrument lights could be some how set to be on/off with the ignition instead of the light switch.

maxi dot menu i think you can switch the dials on and off not 100% thoughemoticon-0148-yes.gif

Yes I noticed that too and I like it! It helps to make the instruments really clear. In fact the whole instrument display seems much neater/smarter than the 'old' maxidot.

No, dont think so , just had a look, nothing on Maxi Dot menu.

Nope, nothing on the maxidot for this on my Fabia either IIRC

Not possible as far as I am aware. This is VAG's new instrument cluster; the needles glow but the dials only light up when the lights are on. MK6 Golf is certainly the same. I personally quite like it!

It was the same on the Octavia vRS mk2 FL btw :)

I have thought the same particularly as digital speed display is km/h (unless you get it changed by someone with the required computer tool).

A while ago someone posted on here their instrument illumination stayed off even when lights switched on. The cure was a new light switch. Hence it seems instrument lighting is separate wiring from the switch so in theory could be modified.

The downside would be instrument lights failing in time and no doubt to replace just one bulb the instrument panel has to come out. I guess a couple of hours workshop time and creaks for ever after.
