Getting a lot of "message not delivered" emails

Featured Replies

Always from foreign sounding URLs and not in relation to any kind of email I have ever sent out.

Should I be worried? They are coming in at the rate of around 2 to 4 an hour at the moment. I know I won't get a virus looking at them just wondered about the fact my email address appears to be bouncing around various mail servers when I am not actually sending any emails...

Could be someone using your email address as the sender.

You wont get blacklisted from sending email as the routing wont match and is easily seen to me spoofed. Could also be a result of an email infection on your machine, or someone who has your email address.

Well, plenty of people/businesses/forums have my email as I've had it for over 10 years now and still use it as my main one. Hopefully it will naturally die down. Avast is putting most of the emails into a junk folder anyway.

We get thousands of them at work per day, nothing to worry about. Malware and viruses have been spoofing email addresses for years, not caused a problem yet. Usual cause is someone you have emailed, or someone who has your email address has got some malware or a virus on their PC.

That's exactly it. Most likely nothing to do with you at all. And there is very little you can do.
