Another newbie!

Hi all

First of all, very pleased to see this site. Any car has quirks and problems, so it's great to be able to discuss them.

This is my first Skoda (I'm nearly 60). I had been driving a 1993 BMW 320i which I bought from my 20 year old son who in turn bought it in a fit of madness last year and then found insurance would cost him £3000! I gave him my old Mondeo out of pity :)

The BMW was a bit squalid frankly, but when you pressed the 'loud' pedal you nearly fell out of the back with the acceleration, so for the first time in my life I became a boy racer lolol. However, what with warped discs which could never seem to be cured, dead front windows, rust, and then finally a bent prop shaft I decided enough was enough. I bought a 2002 Octavia Classic 1.6 petrol manual I saw at a local dealership. To my delight, the car hasn't even got a scratch on it, comes with a 3-month warranty and has been serviced up to January this year, MOT to March 2012 and tax. It was on sale for £1995 but he took my old car and I paid cash, so he dropped it to £1700, which I thought reasonable. This is the most money I've paid for a car in my entire life!!! So it's nice to have a car which actually looks respectable.

The Skoda engine sounds a bit like a diesel, which I suppose is par for the course for the age, but aside from that I've no complaints. I can't believe the size of the boot, and I've pulled all my old cassette tapes out of storage, as it's got the original tape player!!!!

Anyhow, enough wittering. Just thought I'd drop in and say 'hi'.

Cheers
