has any one heard of issues with manual gearbox with notchy change when going back down the box

my FL vrs petrol has over the pass week or so starting suffering when changing down from 4th to 3rd or 3rd to 2nd beng sometimes quite hard to get in to gear, or if it does go in it dosnt seem as smooth as it use to

any ideas .....

What sort of mileage has the car done?

My Superb has from new always had a very difficult to engage 2nd gear from cold - after a mile or two it is OK, but first thing in the morning it will crunch the gear if you are not either very slow going from 1st to 2nd or don't double-de-clutch.

It has been mentioned to Skoda (who guess what .... have not come across this before :dull: ) but I have yet too get it in to them to look at.

Hi

For a few months now, the gearstick on our CR VRS has been very clicky. We have had it in to the dealer who "found nothing wrong" but they seemingly dismantled it, greased it up and put it back together. It was sligtly better for a couple of weeks but is all clicky again. It seems to be better when the weather is very wet - we thought maybe linkages under the car were being lubricated with water spashing up. Haven't noticed any real difficulty getting in to gear but you could maybe use the word notchy.

Anybody else had bother getting into gear or a notchy / clicky gearstick?

Are there any definite fixes out there?

Cheers

Dave

Baulky gear changes, particularly low gears when cold, can sometimes be cured by changing the gearbox oil to fully synthetic. Cheap and easy, and well worth a try.

I had a problem changing down to third when my car was 6 months old, would go in OK but was a bit "graunchy" and you could hear it when you had the window open. Changing the oil made no difference so they replaced the gearbox, as it seemed to be a synchro problem.. Been good as gold ever since.

Mine doesn't like being "rushed" but I just put it down to being not the best gear change I've ever experienced.

On mk2 Octy's I've driven I find the synchro isn't quite as quick as I'd like for really quick launches going from 1st to 2nd. Aside from that, a bit of a tickle can very occasionally be required to get them in reverse. On the whole I think they're a very good box, especially when you add a short shift kit.

Mine is a bit notchy when its cold on the 1st to 2nd gear change but once the oil has warmed up its fine,i asked my dealer to look at it & they said its perfectly normal, there is a tsb out to replace the gearbox oil with a improved version but my car wasnt one of the effected ones.

A gearbox oil change does help on a higher mileage car but PLEASE use Vag oil. I used FUCHs on my last Octy and had to change back to genuine VAG oil as it was even worse than the old oil.

My octy1 developed a stiff/notchy change, an oil change cured that wonderfully. Went on to 200000 miles, till sweet as a nut.

The new to me, 60000 miler octy 2 was pretty bad change wise. My local independant changed the oil - Vag synth, and stripped out the cable ends and gear lever. Slightly dissappointed at first, but it has settled down now and is smooth as a smooth thing rubbed with slippery stuff, done maybe 5-6000 miles.

just done 2000 miles ...

My DSG box is sometimes a little noisy and lethargic when cold also, tends to be ok once the engine has warmed up though.
