Water in boot

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I came to fit my spare wheel due to a puncture and as Ive lifted the boot floor to get the wheel, I've notice water pooling to teh left hand side.

Its not in the tyre well so I thought it may have come from down by the CD interchanger on the left but this is completely dry. Its not come from above as the boot floor top is dry.

Ive currently got a towel in there trying to soak up the water but I'm at a loss as to how the hell its go there in the first place. I cant see any leaks from any where so this has got me a little stumped.

Grrr....

Anyone experienced anything similar ??

If its same as rest check pipe feeding rear washer normally this is cause.

After exhausting all other avenues I found out that water was getting in via the rubber boot seal. It was filling with water and there are no drainage holes, meaning it comes out of the upward facing air holes and then runs down in to the boot.

Solution - cut a few small holes UNDERNEATH the rubber seal to allow water to escape

Is that the hatchback or the estate?

Its a hatch. I did some looking earlier and it could be the rear washer.

Mine was the rubber seal as well. I think its more common than the pipe issue. I had it swapped out under warranty.

Does the water contain screen wash?

In case this hapens to me- do you mean that literally or at the lowest point of the, presumably, tubular seal?

Nips out to car park to look and finds holes all along the seal every 200mm.

A couple of years ago I put a small hole at the bottom corner of the boot seal at each side of the boot to deal with water that was sitting on the seal along the boot lip when the boot was opened after it had been raining. This sorted that problem, but the water wasn't getting into the car as far as I could tell at all though.

Have a look behind the boot lining on the passenger side of the boot to check for leaking in the rear washer pipe. You'll have to unscrew the tie down thingie and the bag hook from the lining at that side and then you can flex the lining away from the fixed parcel shelf to get in there. Putting the back seats down will make access easier too. There's a lip between the main boot and where the pipe usually leaks into too, so there may be a lot more water in there than it first looks like. My car gave all the symptoms of a dead ECU after the leak affected the earth connection in there (Problems all disappeared as soon as I dried it out), so don't let it collect...
