Clutch gone again :( Who pays the labour ?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Had a new clutch and fly wheel conversion done about 14 months ago which i brought from euro car parts.

But now the clutch has failed but is still covered under the 2 year warranty.

Is there any way i can claim back the new labour charges from euro car parts or Valeo who the clutch is made by.

Hope someone can advice me.

Its worth speaking to Euro as ive had parts fail from motorfactors before and they paid the labour and then they claim it back from the company that makes it.

OR.....

What they might do is claim it back off of them first and then pass it on to you, but they do have insurances for this type of thing and at the end of the day if the part has failed its not your fault and they will pay up in one way or another!

Just depends how they go about it and who pays and how long it takes!

Speak to them, pop in ideally with your receipt showing how old the clutch was.

You might find they will ask for your car to be repaired by a garage they use, usually this isn't a problem as the garage will do the work and instead of charging the supplier, they get the equivalent amount of stock.

If your not happy using the garage they recommend then again you need to talk to them, give them the names of a few garages you would be happy with but at the end it will be Valeo that pays the garage bill plus foots the price for the clutch so they may need to speak to Valeo before giving you an answer.

This is all subject to it not being driver abuse, if the clutch is worn on one side more than the other this suggests riding the clutch (resting your foot on the pedal) if there is old on the clutch again this won't be covered under the warranty.

You need to speak to them but i've always found the best advice is to be fair, if your attitude is good, so should theirs but if you go in shouting you'll get their back up and the options become limited.

Hope this helps

Regards Dave

we dont cover labour just parts, arent they a bit funny as you've done a single mass conversion ie not from factory spec? if there not then i cant fault them

Like Bond said they might say It's not oem so not cover it. Good luck mate.

From my experience TPS don't do warranty claims, the last one that we had to do for a part purchased from TPS had to be done through our local Skoda dealer.

Clutches under warranty are a minefield, if it's burnt or worn out it won't be covered, if it's gone due to oil contamination it won't be covered, the only way it might be covered if there is a material/assembly defect. The big problem is that you won't know until it is removed.

we dont do warranty claims on anything electrical over £50 unless you have a vagcom printout to show the fault or on a major unit, ie turbo and such like then the car does have to go to the dealers. clutches are fine though but you get charged for the replacement until the other clutch has gone back and gets approved

They replaced the clutch and the mechanic i used for the job fitted with no charge so very happy and the cars running great.
