Driving the VRS (strange throttle behaviour)

Featured Replies

Is very different to the old SLX. I'm finding it:

a) very difficult to time gearchanges - the engine revs don't drop off as soon as you lift your foot so, as you dip the clutch, the revs rise instead of falling. It's OK if you are v-e-r-y s-l-o-w a-n-d d-e-l-i-b-e-r-a-t-e.... but if you want to press on, it's very embarrassing :o

B) rather disappointing. There's a good push low-down, but it's even more breathless than the old one before it was remapped. I was led to believe by other forum members that the AUQ (or whatever it is) engine pulled nicely all the way up to the red-line (see the 100mph in 3rd thread).

I'm wondering if it's been chipped, with a cheap and nasty chip that has a big boost spike low down. Time will tell...

Am I expecting too much? Is the funny throttle behaviour something I'll get used to, and just a characteristic of the DBW throttle, or is it a fault? I've done the throttle body alignment thing, btw.

sounds like superchips........

Definitely something amiss i would say...

I certainly don't remember mine displaying any of those symptoms when it was standard..

a) I found this when I first got mine. It's just a different beast, and you need to get used to it.

B) After a few timed runs the other week, I found no benefit in taking it to the red-line. I was getting the same times changing up at around 6000rpm. I'm guessing it is outside of the optimum power band or something, and not only that, but you have less to play with in the next gear when you do change :)

Funnily enough the only other VRS I ever drove had a Superchip and did the same thing .... :rubchin:

Thanks, Ventmore - missed that one, first time round.

No probs Nick :)

Nick,

I don't think it just you.

When I have driven an older non-DBW car I 'perceive' the revs to drop off sooner then when I drive my DBW RS. Perhaps the electronics aren't that quick at registering the change in throttle position?!?!?!?!?
