Am I a hero?

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Spent a good few hours washing the car today, when waxing the bonnet I noticed when applying slight pressure to the rear of the bonnet i.e. closest part to the windscreen 'The noise' begins :swear:

I don't know if this is the issue that everyone is experiencing, but it is certainly the noise which has been doing my head in! Sit in your car and get a friend to push the bonnet and you will know the sound I am referring to! It seems that the problem is the rubber seal is pressing on the bonnet when shut and for some reason making the creaking, squeaking etc. Obviously the rubber seal cannot be moved as it stops water getting into your engine bay.

My proposed solution for this issue is as follows:

Stick something like this stuff, (obviously has to be some high temp stuff to tolerate engine heat, as pointed out by Nuriyan)

http://www.amazon.co...07048119&sr=8-7 OR http://www.apetape.co.uk/gbu0-prodshow/single-sided-foam-tape.html along the underside of the bonnet where the bonnet and rubber seal meet .

I will post a guide up and let you all know if it resolves the issue..... Once I get round to doing it :D

ANYONE WHO TELLS ME THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN EXPLORED WILL LOSE 10 BROWNIE POINTS!

One question really, temperature operating range of the foam? Not saying its not suitable, but something I would look into

One question really, temperature operating range of the foam?

Ok, ok... Once I have done some research into the suitable foam :D

Thanks for pointing that out, I shall edit the main post!

I've come across a similar problem on converibles with metal roofs, usually cured by a thin smear of silicon grease on the rubber seals.

I've even used a silicon spray in an aerosol can on this rubber seal, and even on the door rubbers...also helps to stop the doors freezing to the rubbers in winter. B)

Your only a hero If you fixed It while wearing spandex and a cape.

Well this could be arranged, not sure how the mods would like this though :-D

So people have tried silicone spray with no joy other than It stops them freezing in the winter?
