Service Interval Warning

Featured Replies

I went to drive from Glasgow to Applecross yesterday. Car was serviced three months ago but checked the oil before I left (no issues - just short of max. on the dipstick).

I got to Applecross (approx. 230 miles) when the spanner appeared - no worries, just assumed the garage hadn't reset it properly - however, when I restarted the engine it said "OIL" :o - never had that before, it had always just said "INSPECTION".

Applecross is about as far from civilisation as it's possible to be on the UK mainland. I had a litre of oil in the boot but if it had lost that amount on oil in 200 miles I thought something must be seriously wrong. Then I realised it just meant it was due an oil change service :whew: (which it actually wasn't). The fact that the little oil can didn't come up flashing in red offered me the reassurance I needed.

It was worth it though - the Pass of the Cattle is the most fantastic road I've been on - awesome. Driving through clouds at 2054ft was superb and then the steepest descent of any road in the UK - can't recommend it enough.
