Starting problem

Featured Replies

Dear friends, I had discussed about my 2008 model octavia 2, 1.9 , diesel ,manual transmission cars starting problem. many have adviced in different aspects. But none solved my problem. I contacted Skoda local dealer and they told, battery has to be renewed.but since i know my battery is perfectly alright, I did not agreed to it.Then they told some of the sensors can be faulty like crank shaft position and speed sensors. But i was confident that it cannot happen to a well built car like skoda. Then on further investigation they told my dual mass flywheel to be replaced and it may cost nearly 2500 USD(In India)together with clutch overhaul.Since I am a Marine engineer I was knowing engines better than those peoples. while examining the problem myself i found when starting fails(as I described in my previous heading-engine vigorously vibrates and trips ,it happens not in all startings, may be in 1 out of 10 starts)the engine tachometer is showing only 500 rpm and while starting it is supposed to show nearly 1000 rpm.So I opened up the starter motor in a local electrical workshop and found that starter motor brushes are burnt slighty and some times in some positions the two sets of brushes are not making contact and motor not develops enough rpm for starting.I bought a new set of brush from local bosch dealer and got the problem solved.
