teething problems with s3 wheels

Featured Replies

fitted my s3 wheel yesterday to the car. running 205 40 17 toyos. drove car for 20miles yesterday all was fine.

driving this morning car has developed a clunking under light braking. heavy braking no noise also no noise when reversing while light braking or when cornering normally.

wheel, caliper and carrier were all tight.

swapped to the spare steel wheel and noise dissapeared. anyone any ideas.

thanks ste

Have the wheels been painted?

yes been powdercoated black. looking at the back of the wheel the only marks visable are on the inside rim where it has caught slightly on full lock.

Try scraping off the paint on the mounitng face so that it sits perfectly flush. Also make sure its on the spigot ring properly in the middle of the wheel or it will basically be wobbling.

Are you slammed?

Caught on the coilover adjuster ring?

They are 7.5j but cant ever remember mine being that close :/

swapped nearside front and rear wheels round today bad clunking noise has gone. been replaced by a 'creaking noise' when light pressure is applied to the brakes. would the extra weight of the wheel cause the ball joint to creak?
