Unconnected wire on the carb!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

i noticed that i have this wire on the carb not connected. It is earthed to the carb body with a spade connector but the other end that i presume should be connected to something electrical just has an eye and thats it (image below)

Can someone tell me where this goes? the spade connector is on the front of the carb (towards the headlights)

If it's anything like the brown wire on the 1.6i, it should go under one of the allen-bolts holding the carb down. I think it's an earth for something.

if you look closer old rainbow, you'll see that one end already is underneath the carb mouting bolt.

i would hazard a guess that it's supposed to attach to the intake manifold somewhere, the thick gasket under the carb is an insulator so i guess it's a link wire for earthing the carb properly

that wire needs to connect the carburetor body to car's ground (intake manifold) in order to close the circuit for 3 devices:

- the Thermo Time Valve (part of cold start system)

- the heating resistor for bimetallic spring (12-14 Ohm) inside choke cover

- the electromagnetic idle cut-off valve

I took a photo of my 1.3 carburated felicia, it is connected to the carb body as you can see.
