ok thanks nice to know the letter at end doesnt mean to much just some last longer than others, i guess they only recall on new ish cars? not 9 year old ones.

thanks again

Think you need to read the link againemoticon-0148-yes.gif

They recall any car. Along as your pack doesn't end in R or D, they will replace them FOC. Doesn't matter how old the car is.

D is the newest one, R is the second newest one.

iirc theres A, C, D, F, G, H, J, L, Q, R and D

still not sure as everybody seems to be saying different things!! helppppp

mine ends in j and let go the other day but car is nine years old and hasnt been serviced through dealer in a few years!!

It's true what I said. I started the whole recall thing, and about most of the MK1 owners on here, me included obviously have had them replaced.

Mine was on revision L packs, and is over 8 years old, but they still replaced them FOC. The recall covers all Skodas with the 1.8T engine (150 or 180 BHP), as well as some newer 2.0TFSI ones too.

Ring your local dealer and ask them. They will want ot check what coilpacks are in already. If they are anything other then R or D, they will replace them.

Doesn't matter if your have a service history or not either.

phone your local skoda dealer they will change your coil packs for free doesn't matter about the age they should confirm this once you give them your reg or chassis no.

They are changing them because they have admitted to a quality issue with the previous coil packs and it is nothing to do with servicing.

no one there today till 8 tomorrow but if no joy who did you speak to and what garage/dealer as could speak to them!! im based in kent

yup. got mine done on saturday at alex laurie in liverpool. 8 years old, 87k, all replaced f.o.c.

If it wasnt for that thread i wouldnt have known a thing.

Mines a 2003 VRS with 93K on the clock, took it to my local stealer who checked the codes on the coil packs and hay ho they need to be changed  , as soon as they have them in stock the car will in to have them sorted FOC.

Timing is just about right as I fitted a Forge TIP and dump valve relocation kit on Friday, and then took the plunge and had her re-mapped on Saturday, I sometimes wish I could grow up!

Then Saturday night I bought a Jetex sports cat down pipe to go with the single box Jetex system already fitted to the car :S :D .

spoke to them today and booked in tomorrow for them to have alook but only thing they did say if it had been remapped they wont touch it!!! not sure on this as that shouldnt make any different so my have to lie on that one...

will let you know how i get on after i get the lumpy 3 cylinder there :D

It doesn't make any difference if it's modified or not. They have instructions from Skoda UK to change the parts.

See how you get on.

I had no quibbles from the dealer and my engine bay looks like this:

Basicly its called part supersession.. For example every fault with a car and the part involved to fix the fault is logged by skoda in skoda dealerships so skoda look at the "common faults" and the problem parts involved. They then take these parts revise them and see wot componants they can change to improve it. They make the new and improved one in this case a coil pack and replace the old part with the new one and change the part number slightly ie the the last letter so you can tell which part is the latest one (latest supersession) hope this helps to explain lol :)

ok guys thanks for your help be nice to get something for free for a change!! also what is the right plug gap spacing meant to be as i had to adjust mine a few time to stop the misfire as coil pack was breaking down!! before it went completely the plugs were at 0.18 that as only way to get car to run without misfire but know it should be bigger than than!!!

only have forge dv, cold air induction and remap, boost goes from 1.5bar to a steady 1.1

gap should be 0.7mm

  • Author

really!!! o someone said about 0.28??

thanks for that

.028 thou is the same as 0.7mm (0.7 millimeters = 0.0275590551 inch )
