Help with brake problem

Featured Replies

Hello I have a Fabia1.4 estate 52 reg. I am having a problem with the brakes. They sometimes don't work when I have to brake suddenly...particularly when it is wet or the road is gravelly. It feels like something is catching in the brakes, I skid, have to take foot off brake and slowly brake again...i's quite scarey! I have had it looked at and the back brakes were done but it has made no difference. Any ideas or similar experiences?

ABS?

I don't think the car has ABS...

Sounds like ABS to me. Does the brake pedal pulsate when it does this? Adjust your driving style and have a garage look at it just to be on the SAFE side. Do NOT take any chances when it comes to brakes.

I've checked with my Dad, who says it doesn't have ABS. I will be taking it to the garage! I feel a big bill coming!

Hello...I think it does have ABS...but I'm not getting a warning light come up for it...but the warning lights aren't very reliable and I've just had all that looked at (bloody car). I think it's a comfort, 1.4....

I think it's a comfort, 1.4....

I'm about 98% certain that it will have ABS......if you brake suddenly on wet or gravelly roads the ABS will usually cut in....the brake pedal will "pulse" or "bounce" against your foot, and the brakes will be on, off, on ,off, on etc.etc....this is normal.....what can make it worse is if the tyres are low on tread or of cheap quality, as they are more likly to loose traction with the road surface earlier thus activating the ABS more!!! Have you had wheel bearings replaced recently. i replaced front beaings with patern parts and had some scary experinces.relaced sensors to no avail. abs sensor and beaing material conflict. fitted original parts and sorted problem.

I have same problem with my 1.4 16v 2001 Elegance. Most of the time the brakes work but occasionally, especially towards the end of braking, there is a loss of braking power and a funny feeling through pedal (but does not feel like normal ABS pulses). A quick pump on the brakes and back to normal. Had it checked several times and cannot find a fault. I have a gut feeling there is a problem somewhere in the ABS system but like I said had it checked at different garages and they cannot find any problem.
