Bleeding brakes on a slope

Featured Replies

hi i have just replaced the o/s rear brake caliper on my octavia 1.9tdi 2002. and after bleeding the brakes (on a slope)the rear at the low point the brake pedal is still sponge.i did all 4 (rl,rr,fl,fr) and the 2 on the master. i had air come out from all 6. do i need to do bleed them on flat ground? :S

How did you bleed your brakes? did you use a preasure bleeder(such as a ezi bleed) if not using the "pump the pedal" method can damage the master cyl seals on vag stuff.

Second that pumping the brakes causes the seals in the master cylinder to move too far, end result crap brakes and the need for a new master cylinder

i have used both and both still leave a soft pedal, the best result with pump the pedal and bleeding the 2 nipples on the master. i am thinking air is trapped in master as the car is facing up hill the air is not moving

Or in the ABS block, in which case you actually NEED VCDS to bleed it out.

did you bleed the clutch as well?

no

Err if you used the foot method then your master cylinder might be knacked. Best thing to try is start all over again with a pressure bleed and possibly include the abs block and the clutch.

Good luck hope it isn't the master cylinder m8
