Scout towbar fitting

Featured Replies

Hello there Folk, apologies if this has been asked before. I'm after some advice on getting an aftermarket towbar fitted to my scout when it finally arrives! I never got the prep as an extra, I was after what I should looking at I never tow caravans so was thinking single electrics and detachable! Also what sort of cost for fitting and recommended fitters up north near Aberdeen, cheers

Here's my Scout with a detachable Witter towbar.

No cutting required, one 7 pin socket.

Includes the buzzer to tell me if the indicators are working and a test cycle of all light functions as soon as you plug in the trailer.

Rear parking sensors give a constant beep though when in reverse.

£350.00 fitted from a local fitter in York.

And mine is almost exactly the same - same Scout, inc. colour, and same towbar except I have twin electrics for my caravan. Similar price and my parking sensors beep as well. I have just got back from a jaunt down to Derbyshire and the Scout is a superb tow vehicle.

Cheers for the replies that was the towbar I was looking to get and looks like I'll ve joining an exclusive club as my scout (when arrives....hurry up :)) is the same colour. I was quoted around 400 up here in the northern front so not too bad I suppose

I am going to fit a tow bar to my Scout but I don't particularly want a detachable one. But will it interfere with the reversing sensors? I can try to simulate it but I wondered is anybody has found whether it does or not?

Thanks

Graham

There is no reason a non-detachable bar will interfere with the reversing sensors anymore than a detachable. They may be slightly wider but if anything they aren't as high.

I leave my detachable fitted all of the time as it offers good protection from dodgy parking and rear end shunts.

The only reason I chose a detachable is because they look so much better, there is less of it to see and therefore less rust on show. They just look so much neater and aren't hugely more expensive.

It seems a shame to spend £20K + on a Scout then scrimp on the towbar.

I'm with silver1011 on this.

I have a detachable one fitted and I have never had any issues with it interferring with the reversing sensors.

I agree that if you tow, you should of gotten an factory fitted one which I have and the parking sensors do not beep when anything is attached to towbar.

Can this be a simple recode or something on VCDS? Or it's a complex electronics/ECU stuff for sensors to play nicely with after market towbar?

Mines fixed, twin electrics and doesn't interfere with the parking sensors - Which are disabled when I'm towing.

Fitted by ani dependant and VAGCOM used to disable fogs as well when hooked. No buzzers as the existing dash bulb out system is used.

Thanks, I like to leave it on as I think it's better for people to bump the towbar than the bumper. So I assume the 'proper' electrics disable the parking sensors when towing?
