more tyre questions...

Featured Replies

the vrsII is 205/40/17 the polo gti / cupra ect are 215 40 17... the RR is 1.34% difference (they say up to 2.5% is ok) I know the same size tyres have to be on the same axle, I know many cars have slightly wider tyres on the rear as compaired to the front...

but is it breaking the law to have the 215's on the front and the 205's on the back?

Thanks in advance....

Wouldnt that mean anything with wider rear wheels would be illegal?

don't know if you missread what I put, but many cars have wider wheels on the back.. i.e lotus, MG, smart ect ect, what I'm asking is I don't know any with wider fronts, so is it ok? (its negligable as in what the car will be like to drive, I'm just making sure I wouldn't break the law!)

Sorry I don't know either, but I know where I could ask the question. Also maybe worth considering what the insurance might say about it?

Had a quick look and 215's are more expensive than the 205's at about £35 a tyre. Does it make that much difference to handling?

It's not illegal, as others say, some cars have differnt width wheels or tyres front/back as standard. In theory the narrower the tyre on a rim the better the handling/steering response. Unless you do trackdays or racing you are not going to notice the difference.

yeah, I would normally go for the OE size, i was just offered some 215's cheap and I'm skint :(

In that case stick 'em on the back axle.

Sorry, I had misread. I don't think it matters tho tbh, worth remembering better tires should go on the back tho
