Cambelt

Featured Replies

Hello, i am going to look at this vrs this weekend http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201125392105717/sort/priceasc/usedcars/price-to/5000/maximum-mileage/up_to_80000_miles/model/fabia/make/skoda/postcode/de42hq/keywords/vrs/radius/1500/page/1?logcode=p i presume it will need a new cambelt due to its age? But am told it has not had one yet, how much are they to give me a rough idea? Also a bit of a wierd question how much do these smoke standard? e.g. sould i be worried if it smokes when started or underload? Do you think the price is ok? or knock him down abit. Cheers

Cambelt & water pump is around £350-400 at a main dealer.

Very good price, cambelt is 4 years overdue tho :wonder: As for smoke, a little under load is normal. More importantly listen for turbo noises

I thought it was, what i found wierd was that he said it had full skoda service history but i would have thought they would have told them about the cambelt? or is it down to the owner. What am i listening for with the turbo, a whistle?

Yeah, it`ll have a slight hiss/whistle anyway, but anything sounding police siren like is bad. Technically its not full service history if it hasnt had the belt changed. However, if you get it changed straight away it`d not be a issue i dont think, plus another reason to knock money off
