SAT NAV UPGRADE

Featured Replies

Hi has anyone retro fitted the sat nav unit into there superb , replacing the orignal bolero unit . just wondered if its a straight swap or are mods required , wiring ,gps aerial etc :smirk:

Not even got it yet and thinking about modifications will i ever be happy

I've got a 6mth old superb se & I'm looking at upgrading my bolero. Gps antenna is apparently a prob, as it's meant to be factory fitted in rear window. I'm looking at aftermarket options, but the new shape Bolero fascia is looking hard to find skoda part codes to replace.

Still looking.....

Done it to my SE, gps unit can be mounted to the left when you take the bolero out, it's a straight swap but is a bit tight especialy if you put a harness in for the bluetooth phone! (as I did)

many thanks for the reply , how much does the gps unit cost ? and have you had any problems with signal having it buried in the dash

In the rear window? It's a "Fin" on the back of my Estate, which deals with the rSAP bluetooth also.

A really unhelpful dealer told me that this week. Wasn't sure what he meant really, but I can tell when someone wants me to get lost - so I left it alone. I've got that fin too, does it do both gps & BT then? I knew about the BT , but where does the cable go? I have a bluetooth module that I got off eBay & was wanting to get a Columbus to complete the system, but looking at cabling/recoding with VCDS etc put me off a bit. I didn't get the wiring harness with the BT module so not sure whether to just scrap my idea & look at the Asian aftermarket satnav units instead? Anyone had experience with these?

Alex.

You can't compare original Columbus with the crap they sell in Asia.

Go for the Columbus I say, people have done the upgrade before, so it can be done. I love my Columbus, but when it comes to navigation I'm using my iPhone 4 (Navigon) and gets the turn-by-turn instructions via Columbus (bluetooth). The main reason for that is speed cameras with warning sound... (columbus does not support warning sound for speed cameras).

Shark fin is the GPS the radio antenna is in the rear glass.

I've found no fault with the Columbus.

Try ebay (standard GPS unit comes with cable)costs about £10-£15, signal no problem at all (must admit I was a bit worried at first).

I doubt it, my SE did not have the cable so had to fit a GPS unit under the dash.

Just noticed another superb today which had a sharksfin aerial along with another 12 inch traditonal aerial coming out of the same sharksfin aerial , i thought the radio aerial was on the rear screen as it has the vertical lines on the glass

had a close look at mine and it has no facility for screwing in a different aerial so it must be a completley different aerial maybe this might be the difference between gps or not :smirk:

The shark fin with an arial is on the old models, new Superbs have silver trim on the headlight washer and daylight driving lights in the fog lights.

I was told the shark fin had the GPS inside it (but can not confirm this), and on the SE did not have a cable to connect to the columbus (on the old models).

The only way to find out is remove the unit and see if there is a cable.
