Glow plug light flashing

Featured Replies

Hi guys - have had a scoot round on here but can't find a write up for the Mk1 Fabia VRS. My glow plug light started flashing on the way home from work and I've not got no brake lights. Have checked bulbs and fuses so I'm guessing it's the common switch fault.

Is there a "how to" for this, and is there any way of identifying the part number I need? Car is a 54 plate Mk1 Reg AC54VRS.

If I can avoid a labour charge to fit a £10 switch I'd like to do so - just depends how complex it is?

Thanks in advance.

I'm on my phone at the min but there is a a guide on here I'm sure. It's a bit akward but doable tbh

Matt

Its really simple to do!

Go into skoda and they will find the part no problem... Its a very common fault throughout the vag range

Its pretty self explanitory have a look and try figure it out :)

Thanks guys but if someone's already written a how to it would be much appreciated for a link. I don't have the use of a garage or driveway so I really don't want to be fiddling about in the street for ages. Besides I'd hate to make a start and then realise it's not something I can finish!!

Thanks for the help chaps - decided to sod the rain. 5 mins with a number 20 Torx screwdriver, and tug on the dash, and away it came. Twist the switch an remove the plug and I have a brake switch in my hand

Just got to get to the stealer in the morning to get a replacement and I'll be sorted

That's if they have one, everything I seem to order is never in stock but usually available to order within 48 hrs, good luck.

DB.

I've got 4 main stealers within a 20 mile radius of me so fingers crossed!

  • 1 year later...

Sorry to bring up an old topic.

Driving along this morning and my glow plug light has started to flash.

Ecu / Obd light not illuminated.

I have Torque app on my phone. I have done a scan and it has not given me any fault codes? (either there are none, the app does not work or it can’t read codes not in the ecu- like abs faults???)

My brake lights work.

Shall I just change the brake pedal switch and hope it goes away?

Any other ideas on what it could be. Thanks

I think if the glow plug light starts to flash, there HAS to be some kind of fault code for it to happen. Try with another scanner.

I have this problem too.

But I have bought two replacement switches (one GSF the other VW) both look identical and neither work when plugged in.

I attached the connector and them refitted the switch.

The old switch is open circuit so I know the lights work but with the new switches nothing.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Guide can be found here:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/211083-diy-fabia-i-brake-light-switch-replacement/

I got my replacement switch from GSF car parts, cost around £7.50, twenty minutes to fit.

I did pretty much as the guide says except I missed the screw by the steering wheel but the lower dash trim dropped enough to get access to the switch.

Replaced with the GSF switch. Didn't work. Replaced with genuine (both the later 'green' switch). Neither worked.

The only thing I did differently was to connect the wiring to the switch with the ignition on before attaching it to the mount.

Totally bemused. Not helped by the Octavia failings it's MoT at the same time!
