Wheel Balancing

Featured Replies

I've just developed a slight vibration whilst travelling at over 65 mph - it gets nasty under acceleration or braking - that's got to be one of the front wheels out of balance, right ? It does feel a bit like last time the brake discs were warped, but that would surely only cause problems under braking ?

Sounds like wheel balancing - you'd know if the brake disc was warped as under braking it would judder quite severely. You might find that one of your balance weights has just come off..... :)

Hope so ! Heading up the local tyre place in a minute !

I too would get wheel balance checked first since it is the cheapest option to try...

Make sure they tighten the wheel nuts up to the correct torque and in sequence as over tightening in the wrong sequence can cause vibrations :thumbdwn:

Sorted, it was the balancing, both front wheels were "miles out". I don't know how it happened, they were in perfect balance when I got new tyres in December, and the vibration started suddenly last week. Unusual to lose weights off both wheels at the same time ! Anyway, my local tyre dealer fixed it FOC, good man.

A good result! I bet your car feels much nicer to drive now. :)

You bet it does. I had a works Escort van with a bent driveshaft in 1990 that didn't vibrate as much !
