MAF 16486 code

Featured Replies

Well my maf my died yesterday just after i took my carbonio off and put a standard airbox with a K&N panel filter in ....

i'd washed it let it dry for 2 days then re-oiled it with an air filter oil i had (not the K&N oil but an air filter oil that came with a foam panel filter i had on my last octavia vrs)

ordered a new MAF today, just wondering if i should use proper K&N oil or is panel filter oil the same over? don't want a brand new MAF failing due to incorrect air filter oil

Bought a New MAF thought i'd check the wiring inside the plug(the one that plugs on to the MAF) just out of curiosity found the black wire broken (by gentle pulling on the wire as i could see it was slightly longer than the others), so set about getting the wire connector apart managed to get the crimped connector out with some gentle persuasion..then set about with my gas soldering iron and soldered the wire on to the connector put it all back together hey presto 16486 code cleared

so conclusion is it may not always be the MAF at fault

To be completely honest, I would use an air filter with no oil, or a standard one.

If you do use the K&N, make sure not to over-oil it. I would have thought all air filter oil is the same too.

thanks isn't the oil meant to do a job or will the cotton of the filter do it perfectly well with no oil?

No, a K&N needs oil to work properly. I meant get a filter which isn't supposed to be oiled, such as a Pipercross foam one.

i see but any oil designed for air filters will do the same job?

Might be worth you cleaning the MAF with Isopropal as it may have just oiled up.
