MK1 Octavia VRS - Noise on Start Up

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Recently brought an Octavia VRS estate 2003.

It drives beautifully, goes like stink and generally really pleased with the car, my wife used it daily and I have a play in it.

We have noted that on cold Start up it sounds a bit more noisy and possibly slightly rough for about 30seconds to a minute, it then goes silky smooth.

Been new to these cars, is this normal, do they have adjustable tappets. I know my MX5 Turbo sounds similar on initial start up.

Thanks in advance.

James

Websearch "secondary air pump" &Briskoda for the likely issue.

These engines have hydraulic tappets, but if the oil's getting a bit thick they can be a touch tappety cold; when was it last serviced?

Only serviced 2 weeks ago, so oil is good.

I will do a search for the secondary air pump now.

it will be 2nd air pump dont worry about it. pimpmyskoda has a guide on them explaining it all I think.

Rivets will have failed on the sec air pump housing. There's a very good guide on how to repair on uk-mkivs.net.

That should keep you busy for a whileemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

It's not sure the pump is broken, it even sounds like a vacuum cleaner when it's fine. I would just not care about it
