rear spoiler

Featured Replies

Hi all,has anyone had this problem, the spoiler on my black magic 07plate vrs is loosing its colour. The poiler has a greyish tint to it,why would this happen, does anyone know the cost of replacing it,thanks for any help.

Seems that the spoilers are very hitty missy, you either get a 'good' one or a not so good one. As far as I'm aware it's due to water and sunlight penetrating the lacquer.

There's no need to replace it, just get it re-sprayed.

If yours is an 07, you may be lucky and be able to get it done under warranty, or get them to contribute to the cost as a good-will gesture.

Have a word with your dealer, you don't get if you don't ask

You could try a paint restorer (something like Autoglym Paint Renovator) followed by a good polish, otherwise it would have to be a respray. I think most bodyshops would do it still on the car - the spoiler is bonded on and I believe it is almost impossible to remove without damaging it.

I know plenty of people who have removed it and refitted no issues, bit of fishing wire & heat it up, jobs a good un. Mine is starting to go, my mate just had his redone too, £80 it cost him.

its gonna Peel.... thought i managed to save mine with paint restore....... now its peeling a treat, they are easy to take off and just get some stickaflex to bond it back on.

Mine has started fading aswell but i dont think paint restorer will save mine :wonder:

someone i know M3 Farbon wrapped his.... hes silver and it looks quite good

If anyone manages to get there's off I'd be really interested in seeing what you get left with on the panel underneath, paint + bonding mess wise.

...p.s.

If anyone gets it off for a respary then It's well worth seeing if you can find a Old Stock Sport / GT spoiler as they're different to the vRS's.. They're actually slightly longer, smoother and on the edges at each end go down over the window a tad..

Im going to give mine a go with the colour restorer tomorrow i hope!

The only one I've seen in the flesh is on ChrisW880's Fabia.. If you nice to him he might take a pic for us where it's differs on the edge near the rear window ;)

I was hoping it's the the same paint underneath the spoiler.. It's removing the glue with out a trace left behind that concerns me

Mines a 54 reg and it has terminal spoiler cancer too.

Looks hideous.

Probably going to paint it myself in satin black.

Hey,guy's,thanks for all the imput, iam glad to hear iam not the only one to get this.Gave local Skoda dealer a ring today, they said pop in and they would see what they could do,maybe i will ask for some good will.

I've not seen this for myself, but ages ago had a seat with lacquer peel on a section of the front bumper, about 25% of it.

Friend of mine (with his own bodyshop) flatted it down and shot fresh Lacquer over it. Brill job, invisible repair and no paint just clearcoat. Charged me £20

Got a cheeky contacts, as the G/F dad has just started work with a paint shop  taking it off this sat, giving it too him sunday, and hes gonna get one of the paint sprayers in the arear to look at it B)

My car being RED is prone to colour fade particularly on rear tailgate spoiler, but as said a bit of 'T'cut and then a polish afterwards puts it right for a coupla months.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Tried that on my spoiler and seemed to weaken the lacker(sp) and is jsut pealing now :(

Is the red is a flat colour isnt it? or is it metallic?

Red is a flat colour i think buddy.

I saw in halfords today a G3 product which was a paint renovator. Anyone had this? Seemed very good on the packet etc.

Flat colours were RED - YELLOW on MK1 Fabia VRS.

Respray estimate would be in my opinion in the region of £70-£90, good body shop would do job with spoiler in situ.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Just an update on my spoiler, got the car to Skoda dealer who took pics and did a depth gage and said they would try and get me some help but didn't hold out much luck as my car was serviced by Ford and not them, also said spoiler was plastic and not covered by the corrosion warranty,so not looking good.Any ideas how much a respray might cost?.
