Audio on the vRS?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have just replaced the Head Unit in the Wife's vRS with a quality Alpine Headunit (which sounded excellent in my Leon Cupra with factory speakers) ... despite this I find the sound very lacking ... it's pretty harsh and has no real depth despite spending some time setting up the stereo.. so I reckon the speakers must be poor quality.

So can anyone recommend something to drop in? (what are the standard sizes?) ... I don't want to be creating spacer rings, etc ... simply want a direct replacement although whilst I'm in there I will throw some dynamat in the doors...

Cheers!

Pioneer do a straight swap for the rears...it's a 10cm speaker I think with a square spacer/holder with four mounting holes...very good did mine about 7yrs ago...they still do a version of it...never done the fronts as they seem to be fine for me! B)

Get a small sub tbh. makes all the difference.

Sort the EQ out and make sure the speakers are wired properly, if you'll forgive the suggestion... Factory HUs can have weird EQ responses to make the best of things. When replaced, with something more powerful but with a more natural EQ, this can cause problems.

IMO the Fabia speakers shouldn't necessarily be a weak point. A reasonable sized woofer on a solid metal carrier shouldn't sound crap. OTOH, scapping them, fitting golf mk4 spacers and a 165mm component setup certainly has potential to sound far better.

IMO...

Replace the front speakers with quality components.

Fit a reasonable 150x2 amp driving the front speakers.

Consider sub options.

Forget the rear speakers unless you're prepared to work hard for small reward. The rears are best mostly faded out, providing a small amount of fill.

Agreed, this is what i done on mine, small active sub only costing about £80, sounds brillant

Looked further into this with the suggestions and the drivers side front speaker is blowing slightly so new components are the way forward...

What size is the front?

I've already recommended a sub to the Wife but she won't have it... I know where your coming from as I run JL Audio sub and amp in my Leon Cupra!

Any recommendation for front components that are sensibly priced? Fail to see point of spending much when driving off internal amplifier...

OEMs are 5", you can fit 6.5s in there but beware of depth. 60-62mm is pretty much it. Otherwise you've the window guide behind and the door trim in front to worry about.

Try these? http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/index.php/index.html/_/reviews/speakers/vibe-lite-air-6-component-speakers-r683

You'd have more space to play with fitting slim compos. Still need a spacer ring though.

Which one?

One of those Edge active subs, think halfords sell them for £89, only a small 10" one and around 120watts rms. Also super light for those worried about adding weight to their car, including me!

Brought mine and had it fitted at my local audio professional, and even they commented on the sound quality. Treble high-ish, bass turned right down on the door speakers and the sub turned aobut 2/3rds up.
