Its being sold by a skoda garage, not alot of detail on the ad, what should i be looking out for? doesnt mention what hp it is, is it a 90?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I think that the Blueline was based on the Ambient, so it will be 90BHP. Make sure that the belt has been done. Should have had one change and will be about ready for its next early next year by the looks of it.

On my 2001 110, the left and right lower grills are different on each side, on that car they seem to match....

Quite low mileage, would a 2003/4 90 have a VVT turbo?

Sills don't look bent, which is always a bonus.

Cheers guys, are the 90hp cars quite sluggish?

HAs anyone got a blueline?

Is it a problem if it doesnt have a vvt turbo?

Excuse all the questions, the last car I got was trash, so want to make sure this car is in good nick.

if a vvt turbo, and only log mileage, it might have done a lot of slow work around town, and then turbo vanes might be jammed up, result in over-boost faults. Best way to it drive it and see how it feels, and also get it scanned for fault codes. The non-vvt turbo has a wastegate which is more reliable, but I am pretty sure phases out by the age of this car.

Not sure how sluggish the 90 is, as I have never driven one, they should be ok (but nothing ground breaking), I guess it depends on what you are used to driving.

Yep that's got the 90bhp (66kW) 155lbft (210Nm) engine in it.

I think it's the ALH engine code to be precise. If it is an ALH engine then it should have the Garrett VNT turbo fitted.

It should return 54mpg too. More here: http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Detail.aspx?deriv=26326

Car looks well, go have a look at it. The only problem with the VNT turbo's is that the swing vane mechanism can become jammed with soot, and you'll need to get it cleaned. But a test drive should highlight this. It's more commonly a problem on taxi's, as they never really use the full range of the engine and hence don't frequently actuate the mechanism. Just so you know, the vanes are closed at low revs (for better transient response), and open at high revs to prevent overspeeding.

I know it has low mileage, but £4k seems a little steep for me. After all it is still over 7 years old, and only has 90bhp. Find some similar examples for less if you want to haggle.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks Guys, you been really helpful.

I never bought from amain dealer before, can you haggle?

Im used to driving a megane 1.9dci 120bp, so I am guessing this will feel slower

When Im test driving, how will the jamming be apparent?

If it jams and the car detects an overboost it will go into limp mode, with virtually no acceleration, and will not be able to maintain speed on uphills, etc. Normallyt if it jams, cycling the ignition will clear the fault and allow normal service sill the next time it jams up (a fault will be logged in the ECU, but the engine light will not come on on the dash).

Everyone should be up for a haggle. If you have a hand held fault code reader, you could take it along with you, or get the dealer to scan the car after a test drive if you like - will show how willing the dealer is to help. Also could flag up anything else which needs fixing which gives you more grounds to knock the price down.

I won't comment on the actual price, as I don't know.

I know where this garage is in Attleborough - just around the corner from my mates house. I think it used to be a Skoda dealer but lost their franchise and became a 'specialist independent'.

Anyway it does look very clean and genuine - 64k is low mileage. 90bhp is fine - won't be a ball of fire but when running right they produce a good turn of speed, however it will feel quite tame against your 120bhp DCi Megane (assuming that was running as it should have been). You can have the ECU re-mapped for between £200-£300 and will instantly produce around 125bhp alone just from this.

The Ambiente I had did 168k before I traded it in. The only reason being was that it needed a dual mass flywheel (and new clutch) but the engine itself was still running great.

It is a tad pricey perhaps but they will be asking top retail price due to it being low mileage and a diesel, plus being a special edition. Give it a blast up the A11 to Norwich (or at least Wymondham!) and if you like, hammer out a good deal!

Let us know how you get on

Dan
