misfire

Featured Replies

Hi my wife has a 2007 1.4 elegance petrol which has a severe misfire when travelling at 1500rpm in all lower gears (not had chance to try in 5th) do any of you have any idea what this maybe

Sounds like a faulty EGR valve, mixture is leaning off too much on idle transition.

Gear selection is really not relevant, it'll happen in all gears.

Does it do it when the engine is still cold or does it take a few minutes to appear?

Hi she says it doesn't do it when cold or she hasn't noticed it, what will I have to do to solve it. Forgot to say it doesn't have any warning lights on.

I would imagine the car drives fine if kept over 2000rpm right?

It is possible that the HT side of the ignition is malfunctioning, you should check the plugs/coil packs etc.

Failing that you should clean or replace the EGR valve and re-adapt it as necessary. The search function is your friend here.

The CEL will eventually come on if the problem worsens but it can throw a whole load of unhelpful codes at you. It will probably start stalling and be difficult to restart until it cools down.

Thanks for that, should vagcom pick up what it is? How easy is it to re-adapt the egr valve

Hi I have replaced egr valve with a brand new one as the old one was seized solid, the car is still missing and the temp gauge seems to go up quicker than normal could this be a temp sender fault?

1 - Coil Pack

2 - Leads (if it has them)

3 - Spark plugs (check them for condition and Gap)

if that dosent solve it then look at senders and stuff.

Always rule out the basics. for all you know could be a faulty spark plug.... pennys.. ;)

Hi that page link doesn't have text, I did the EGR adaption and it said it was ok. If it was a coil pack or plug wouldn't it do it under load more? it seems strange that it only does it bang on 1500rpm. My wife says it does it now when its hot and cold.

Don't know why the link was truncated but if you did the EGR adaptation and it was ok then it probably is.

ECU temperature sensor may need replacing. If your EGR valve was shot then there's a good chance the plugs are too. They're £15 for a set, why not replace them.

Checked plugs and they same OK

Look closely at your plugs, since they have a single electrode with a triple ground look for the electrode appearing slightly triangular, this is bad, your electrode should be perfectly round.

Back again! I've put new Skoda egr valve on and adapted with vagcom, cleaned throttle body and adapted with vagcom, changed spark plugs and cleaned map. Now when the car has done about 10 miles its engine light comes on with fault code po402 35 something maybe 10. which is excessive exhaust gas. Coolant sensor to fit but to hot at moment.

Anyone know what could be wrong.
