Storing radio code in ECU?

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

My Octavia came with the standard Stream unit which I first upgraded to a Stream MP3 and then to a Columbus.

I know the radio code is retained in the ECU for the current stereo, but if I stick the original Stream back in will I now need to get hold of a code from the dealer or will it magically be retrieved fromthe ECU?

You will need to recode the original stereo.

Thought that might be the case - many thanks.

In fact the current instrument cluster Id is stored in the radio and radio asks for code only if previously saved Id doesn't match or can't be read.

So you can swap Stream/Columbus on the same car without entering any codes.

The radio codes itself to the immobiliser in the car, so you won't (or shouldn't) need the code when you re-install the old radio.

Thanks Josi and Ben - sounds like I'll be ok then.

I sent my local dealer an email earlier and to their credit they responded within an hour asking for the stereo serial number and my chassis number etc - they'll supply the code for free so I might as well get hold of it even if I don't need it
