Engine management light on after oil change...why?

Featured Replies

Have just changed my VRS oil and filter, now the engine management light is on, does anybody know what has caused this?

Thanks

You could of disturbed a sensor somewhere. There's no way of knowing what has caused the EML to come on without doing a diagnostic with VAGCOM etc.

You haven't overfilled the oil have you?

As Paul said, not much point guessing so get it scanned for the codes.

Oil level is fine so guess it will have to be scanned.

Anyone around Sheffield that could do it?

Cheers for the replies

Shark perfomance in mansfield if its not too far?

Dave

If you have a laptop may as well take the opportunity to get a VAG COM cable and you could do it yourself, or a scanner/fault reader from ebay.

I know of Shark Performance in Mansfield, its only down the road from me.

Looked in to using my laptop but cant justify the cost at this time.

Why not - software is free on limited version & cable a tenner?

A tenner?! Didn't see them. Will look harder.

OR......... download VCDS lite from ross-tech free!!! and buy a cable!

Possibly a camshaft setpoint error caused by low oil pressure after the intitial start up.

If you can get to Huddersfield, I have vagcom and can have a look for you.

Thanks for all the replies. Have found that a hose clip has broken off the secondary are pump, could this be the reason? Still going to get it scanned tho.

It sounds like a possible, given that the pump is pretty close to the filter, but when you say the clip has broken i presume you mean the hose itself was not attached (i.e. had come off due to the broken clip). I know my EML came on when i removed my pump altogether, and first came on when the power connector wasn't fully connected to the pump.
