looking to buy a fabia estate 1.4 16v reg 04/07 so i think that makes it a mark1 ?? only done 20k any weak points to look out for on this model befor i splash the cash ?

cheers

Got one of these myself 53 plate yeah it would be a mark 1 brill car just usual things to look out for with them. Check under rear carpets for damp as this is a known fault, engine seems bullet proof enough :) Rest is just usual checks belts etc not much to complain about with mine hopefully yours should be all good as well :)

With that amount of miles , I would be checking the service history , make sure its not been wound back for starters

Then when you get there , make sure for cold starting......I am a bigger fan of higher mileage engines , that goes to show it is used how an engine should be used.......but make sure there is no rattles when started from cold

Sounds like it has been stood for a while , so a usual check for tyres , brakes etc......

So that is 2 replies now,,,,better?

Main weak points on all fabias are front arb drop links, front console bushes, you should be on the later redesigned front arb so ok...if not then front arb and bushes.

For that engine......you need to have all the belts/tensioners pulleys done every 4yrs or 40,000miles......waterpump done every 8yrs/80,000miles....also run it on Shell Vpower for best performance as it dosn't like standard unleaded......Use the engine...it needs hot runs using the revs upto 6,000rpm....I use mobil 1 0/40w oil as this is the best for this engine...buy it when on offer at halfords. B)

As it has only done 20,000miles in 7yrs then alot of things to check as well.....this applies to any car that has been used so little!!!

All brake pads removed and backs regreased....discs inspected for rust etc., ...fuel filter has it been renewed in past 4yrs??? Gearbox oil might need changing,.....main battery has this been replaced in passed 6yrs? if not replace (must be a 60ah size min!!! )..... coolant has this been changed in passed 5yrs???? Tyres are they over 6yrs old???? flat spots on them????

There are probably other things as well!!! B)
