Parking Sensor Fault Diagnosis

Featured Replies

I've been playing around my VCDS trying to figure out why my parking sensors keep going off with nothing behind. At first I assumed it was because I have a bodged retro fit towbar (with twin electrics), but now I am not so sure...

It never used to flag up any errors with the Park Assist module, but I got so annoyed I disabled the park assist through VCDS buy changing the setting to 'with towbar' in the Basic Settings (not realising it would disable it completely; I assumed it would just reduce the sensitivity of the two centre sensors).

I have now enabled it again and have been looking at the responses for each sensor. All were at 255cm (distance) and then one would switch from 255cm to 40cm in an instant (centre right) and obviously sound the alarm. I tried logging the data as it looked like the voltage would drop from 14v to 13.9v at the same time the the distance changed from 255cm to 40cm. Does that make sense to anyone?

How would I know the sensor if faulty or the wiring to it? Or could it still be the towbar (which is has all the electrics on the left)?

Could it be the rear washer fluid getting on the control box?? My front jets work but the rear one doesnt (and the nozzle isnt blocked).

Just been searching old threads :giggle:

If it's the rear washer pipe disconnected you should also find some water in the spare wheel well.
