It's tricky and it involves the use of a hammer and chisel to beat hell out of the old lock (to first get the door open) , then fit a new one (around £80). My mechanic mate had a worried look on his face for a good while doing that one ...... and he's done quite a few.

I can't quite remember all the things that had to come off, or the order in which they come off, but I find that the brain is quite good at consigning traumatic experiences to the far corners of the memory.

Not really for the faint hearted .....

I found I could open mine by disconnecting the power to the door - though I also know this didn't work for someone else!

Open the front door and prise off the rubber bellows that attach to the middle of the B pillar. Then disconnect the multiplug (I think it's the lower of the two - the one with most wires coming out of it). This is a bit tricky cos you can't easily release the clip on the rear side - a bent screwdriver helps.

When I did this my door opened, and continues to work to this day. It just doesn't have central locking or electric window. Must get the job finished and fit the new £100 lock sometime...
