Fog light surround removal

Featured Replies

What is the easiest way to achieve the above please?

I would tell you the easy way to remove these, but I know you are going to paint them gold. So figure it out yourself......:moon:

I didn't think the manual would go that far - I cynically assumed they would recommend going to the dealer to change a foglight bulb - will have a look later, unless Lee reconsiders his position ;-)

Please Brimma, put the foglights back on and spray the grill black. it will look much better, oh and remove the JPS sticker, gold rims + gold pinstripe = sorted! looks great!

so guess what im trying to say is....STEP AWAY FROM THE GOLD PAINT!

You have to remove the outer part of the Lower Grille insert.

If you feel around on the grille in the middle you will feel a rectangular hole. Put two fingers in that and pull firmly but evenly. Don't yank it as you will snap it. They take a fair bit of effort to get off as well if you haven't had them off before.

Once that is done look inside the hole covered by these parts and you will see a plastic prong sticking out that is hooked onto the bumper. Just push that in and push towards the outside edge of the bumper and surround will pop out.

That may sound a bit confusing but once you get the outer grille insert off it is self explanatory

Re-fitting is just push everything into place

you dont need to remove grille to remove surrounds , take mine out every time i clean it , just hook your fingers round the edge nearest wheel and pull out and sideways at same time

You do need to remove the grille on a Pre FL. Otherwise you run the risk of snapping the retaining tab.

No you don't like I say take it off every time, more chance of damaging the clips on the grille which is much more fragile plastic, rather than the pliable surrounds

The grille plastic is far far stronger than the Foglight surround. I have had both off on my previous vRS numerous times (carbon wrapping the foglight surrounds, colour coding those very same grille parts and installing DRL's to name a few) and the only way you would break the grille plastic is with a hacksaw! :wonder: Trust me i had to use a combination of Stanley knife and drill to install the DRL's

Not saying your method doesn't work as it obviously does. However according to Skoda & Elsawin the way i described is the correct method of removing the surround as shown/described below. I know that is talking about alignment but that is how you get access to remove the cover :)
