On two flanges on the side of my TDI engine are two numbers.

One is GQQ18055-14-1566-3

The other is JBO 12121.

No idea. The engine number is listed on the V5C. The vehicle data sticker on the boot floor and inside the front cover of the Service Schedule lists VIN, model description, gearbox/paint number/interior equipment/engine output/engine code, and optional equipment.

I think I've solved part of my question.

There is no sticker inside my service book as you assume. There was a sticker on the boot floor which the dealer tried to peel off, and actually got off in pieces.

I put them back together and saved the info. I had an idea at the time that it may be important.

Against engine code it says BJB---blank space---GQQ.So your assumption that there is a number there is wrong

But I assume GQQ on my flange is the engine number.

There is no other number even slightly like JBO etc.on the sticky label.

Maybe someone else may be able to help with the JBO bit.

If my memory serves me right - Skoda list the details on the sticker in the same way that Audi do - in which case the sticker would first give the chassis number then model number then below that engine code & number on the left and Gearbox code on the right it also then has paint codes and option codes along with weights and emmision details.

Isn't the engine no. on the V5 (vehicle registration doc.) issued by DVLA? I seem to remember I got the V5 for my Alfasud updated when it had a change of engine. Not absolutely certain as it had a change of body colour at the same time and that definitely had to be updated on the V5.

They may well be different from Audi - they would list something like :

AWX123456

The engine code is usually on a sticker on the cambelt cover as well - although this may be hidden by the engine cover.

The vehicle should come with 2 data stickers - one that stays attached to the body - usually boot floor or under the back seat and one for the service book.

Does yours have an empty box where the sticker should be and has the dealer filled in date and stamped the page? The sticker in the boot has the same vehicle data but is not bar-coded and should remain there.

There is a space inside my service book that looks like it should have a sticker in it. It doesn't.

On the boot floor was a sticker. The dealer ripped off 4 bits got fed up dropped them on the spare wheel and I picked them up and got the fifth bit off later.

This sticker has the VIN at the top then "type" (a code with numbers and letters) then a jumble of letters , i.e." A5--SH---AMBI---77KW--5S " then trans code,i.e. BJB--(blank)-----GQQ then interior, i.e. 9901-BK then a mass of codes some of which I have found on here.

The important one is QG1.

No engine number between the "BJB" and the "GQQ" and nothing like my JBO number.

So am I right to think "GQQ180---- etc" is my engine number on the flange I have discovered ? Where is the engine number?

I've examined the very different Spanish documents and there are no details anything like the numbers concerned.

And NO I have not lost a bit of the label. It is complete.

( Remember this is Spain. They are not like us.)

BJB is your engine code.

GQQ is your gearbox code.

Your engine number will be on the top timing belt cover and your V5.
