Bolero intermittent power

Featured Replies

My Bolero unit has recently started powering itself down. It's happened in both Radio and Media mode. I press the power button to turn it back on again and then it does the same thing again. Turn it on, it turns off, turn it on, it turns off etc. - this repeats quite a few times then eventually stays on.

This has only happened 3 times in the last three weeks but is pretty annoying. The last occasion it must have taken about 20 presses of the power button to get it to stay on.

In addition to this the stereo doesn't consistently power up when I turn on the ignition. If this happens then when I turn it on after the car has started it fails to power down when I get to my destination and turn the ignition off.

Anyone experienced this problem? Any ideas? The car is still under warranty, but I suspect it will be one of those problems where the dealer says they can't fix it unless it's happening when I take the car in.

Hi. I have the same problem. Replace the faulty ignition switch with a new one, part number 1K0-905-865-A. Warranty replacement.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take it up with my dealer.

If there is an intermittent fault with the ignition switch it will log it, seeing as the ECU can detect intermittent faults on wiper stalks, indicator stalks and parking sensors, I would be very surprised if it can't detect and log an intermittent fault on something as important as an ignition switch

That`s my log

Yep - all the OP needs is VCDS or a dealer to confirm if it is the same fault.

Thanks for all the responses on this folks. Car is still under warranty so I took it back to the dealer last week. I was also fed up with the SD card taking 40 seconds to load after changing a file directory so I asked them to look at this along with the power issue. I told them I suspected it might be ignition switch related thanks to your help on here.

The dealer made the firmware update on the unit to solve the SD card reading issue. In doing so they had hoped it might fix the intermittent power problems and asked me to give it a try before replacing the ignition switch. They had seen the fault codes D.L. provided but these cleared after the update. I was happy to give it a try, but on my way home the power issues hit again. Took the car back in this week to change the ignition switch and all is now well.

Very happy to have a fully functional stereo. And thanks again to all that helped.

Glad you got it fixed!
