ALDI/Tevion HD Sat 28260ALD

Featured Replies

There seems to be quite a few cheap or reduced HD Satellite "Freeview" systems at ALDI, B&Q etc for about £70

Just make sure thay can receive DVB-S2 or you will find yourself losing channels (eg Film4)as these are moving satellites/transponders.

I won't be buying anymore Tevion stuff as it always seems to go wrong or has poor spec.

Spoke to the lady in ALDI and she said with the original packing and receipt, they can give a full quibble-free refund within 60 days of purchase.

I had an e-mail from tech support saying the unit does support DVB-S2 and they suggest some tests.

I'll get me coat........................................

It isn't freeview you get but free to view and Film 4 wouldn't be included. The channels you would mainly get would be the free channels on Sky TV. A better option might be a freesat box.

Yep, I should have looked for the freeview logo on the box ! :swear:

What was wrong with this please?

it does not support DVB-S2. BBC HD and BBC One HD are now both transmitted on DVB-S2, so if you have this receiver you can no longer receive these 2 channels.

Dunno who told you this but it is not correct..... I bought one of these yesterday and have been watching BBC 1 HD and BBC HD. The BBC changed the transponder format to 10847 V 23000-8/9 which is different to the one listed on the box so unless you do a blind search or manually change the TP details you won't get it.

Works for me - even recorded some stuff to USB drive.

At the same time, BBC switched to DVB-S2,

We will shortly be making such a change to the satellite transponder that carries BBC One HD & BBC HD. The signal on this transponder is currently broadcast using a modulation scheme called "DVB-S". On 6 June we will be upgrading to a newer "DVB-S2" scheme. This is a more efficient way of operating the transponder and it creates more capacity from the same amount of spectrum. More spectral bang for our buck, if you like

if you are still receiving these channels then this receiver does actually support DVB-S2

Cheers Mannyo.

The manual does say it supports DVB-S2 now, the receiver wouldn't tune to it using a standard tune (as per the instructions) because the transponder format was incorrect in the boxes memory. I fiddled (amended the offending TP data) with the correct stuff from Lyngsat and the BBC HD channels appeared. A full blind tune should also do it.

Still cannot tune to 4HD which is FTA now @ 28.2 E - it will not pick up the transponder at all. I will keep you posted once I get it setup properly. It is not plug and play but I wanted it for the HD hard drive recording functionality (which is crippled on Freeview HD boxes) - it also has quite a good media player on it which will decode many (but not all) audio and video formats including 720p/1080p mkv files.

BBC made a massive ****-up switching that over and gave users only 1 full working day notice of the change. A release buried on a BBC internet blog on Thursday afternoon to say it was switching on Sunday night at midnight. A lot of DVB-S only PC multimedia centres/sat boxes went blank without warning. I have noticed other tv providers putting scrolly messages across the screen on occasions like this weeks in advance. A lot of the freesat hd boxes also refused the update unless a factory reset was done leaving many people out of pocket calling out sat installers to fix the issue.

This is a very good unit

Add a hard drive and it can record bbc hd etc

the picture is very very good

Thanks, this is freeview HD, the box in this thread is a satellite one. Hi Def recordings are encrypted on the hard drive so you cannot play or convert them on a PC. I also think they will only play on the actual box which the recording was made.
