Should I 'big mouth'?

I'm battling with heat and want to get it as prepared for hard track driving as possible. Do you think I should big mouth my front bumper and cut some holes in the crash bar?

The SS FMIC blocks up the radiator and it seems to overheat really quickly. My oil cooler is due to arrive in a few days but I still kind of want to big mouth just to keep things even cooler.

Soo... Thoughts? Any photos of a black vRS with a big mouth and SS FMIC?

If you do and coat the front of the intercooler in black (like mine) you'll hardly notice it, particularly due to the colour of your car.

It can only help, but I would speak to your MOT tester first about just how big a hole(s) you can chop before it becomes "inappropriate chassis modification" and is likely to be a Reason for Rejection after the end of the year. Awesome have chopped all of my crash bar away in front of the FMIC so while it's probably great for cooling, there's virtually no structural integrity there anymore so I'm on the prowl for a new one...

You could try raising the back end of the bonnet whilst on track, and/or removing the back rubber seal, to get more flow through the engine compartment. Otherwise, the only escape for the air is down the tunnel and out the back or the sides under the car. Also s'pose you could make the entire numberplate mount and front grille removable, a track only big-mouth.

On the Subarus, they tend to run a lower temperature thermostat. ISTR 70 degrees as opposed to 95?!. As both cars have oil/water modines/coolers, the effect on a Fabia should be similar. Basically, the stat opens earlier and stays wider for longer. Has an effect on both oil and water temps.

What are you seeing, hot oil, hot water, or both?

how much of a difference would the big mouth make? im not sure it would make a whole pile of difference, plus it dont look the best, you could also go for a water spray kit for the cooler to help with things.

on a side note, where and what did you pay for your ss cooler as im gonna get myself one soon :) did you get it from dave over at sere here in northern ireland? if so do you have his details as i cant seem to find them

I know it possibly has a small effect on a standard car, but doubt it`ll do much with luke`s spec tbh

Wait till the coolers fitted and see if it over heats still, as the wide mouth does look crap. Also can't you put a short in the fans so they run continuously when on track.

Your car came with a Big Mouth and you changed it back to std??????? :wonder:

Find an old photo of what it looked like when you baught it, chop the colour of the wheels (thats the style you started with) and make choise?
