Another Tyre repair kit question

Featured Replies

I've currently got the spare in the boot and am thinking of taking it out for my day to day driving. Is the VAG tyre repair kit worth it or would holts tyreweld do just as good a job? With the VAG kit once used do you end up having to replace the tyre as its full of solid gunk?

Ta.

From my experience. if you have a flat on a fast road, once you have brought the vehicle to a safe halt in a safe place, the tyre is likely to beyond reinflating. I suspect that the only time I would ever be tempted to use the gunk that came with the car would be if I had a slow puncture, and found the tyre flat on return to the vehicle. Even then I would try and reinflate it first, and see If I could slowly drive to the nearest tyre place instead of using the sealant which I believe writes off the tyre as the tyre dealaers are not prepared to clean them for the patch and still give a gaurantee. Indeed would they even be able to find the puncture in some cases?.

Don't forget the sealant only seals and partially inflates the tyre, you still need the associated pump to get the needed pessure.

I wish I had specified the spare, and would not dream of leaving it at home if I had one. Once used the vag sealant costs about £35 to repalce as well, so not a trivial decision to use it on a part worn tyre.

I have no spare on my Yeti 110 & I was concerned that the repair kit would sometimes be inadequate,so I now subscribe to Tyron Assist-3 years for £65.They come to you anywhere in the UK & change the tyre if necessay.I tow a caravan which is fitted with Tyron bands-that is an extra £25 for 3 years.Haven't had cause to call them out yeti.......

Surely this service is covered by Skoda Assist, or am I mistaken?

I think they will change your wheel, but Tyron Assist bring tyres with them,& you only pay for the new tyre-allegedly at a competitive price.Especially useful if the puncture can't be repaired. And I doubt whether they would fix my caravan.
