Gearbox rumble/vibration

Featured Replies

ok, so here's the scenario...

driving slightly downhill in 4th gear at a steady speed.

when i take my foot off the accelerator and use engine braking, there is a noticeable rumble/vibration from the gearbox.

i can feel it through the gearlever if i put my hand on it and i can hear the rumble over normal engine noise.

changing to 3rd or 5th and the noise/vibration goes away.

now i'm thinking there is either wear or damage to the gear, or possibly wear or damage to one of the layshafts.

anybody got any other ideas?

anybody had similar problems?
