high pitch noise on gear change since n249 bypass

Featured Replies

i did the n249 bypass the other week and since then every time i change gear or let off the throttle i get a short "ftist" noise from what sounds like its low down on the o/s front. i used to be able to hear the dump valve from around behind the glove box area but this can only be heard on occasion when on partial throttle. i have a dv30 fitted. is this good for my car? any ideas? cheers in advance. peter.

Bailey DV30 seems to work ok on some VAG 1.8T's, but I've heard of loads of people having problems with them. Sounds to me like the large pipe from the pancake pipe (located behind the o/s/f wheel arch) to the intercooler may have started to leak, which is pretty common, & VAG actually revised the part because of problems with it not sealing properly.

but wouldnt this cause a noise under boost not just when letting off the throttle? ive not noticed any lack of power. sitting at around 10-12 psi on my gauge.

Yes you're right but if the noise is coming from that o\s\f area it suggests to me that possibly under boost the leak could be sucking closed, but as you lift off it's opening if you get my drift?

i get what u mean, its just i think its strange its started since the bypass was done. would the one valve cause a fault like that if its fitted incorrectly?

Probably worth you checking the bypass connections in case you have a boost/vacuum leak.

maybe the bypass connection is leaking or it could be just the fact that you can here the DV working better mechanically as those dv30 are louder than most.
