Remapped/chipped Fabia VRs - Getting the power down?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Some of you will know that I have had my fabia 1.9 tdi pd100 fitted with large fmic and remapped to 151 bhp and 252 lb/ft torque. Even with this amount of power/ torque I have to be careful accelerating on the current greasy and wet rodes.

I wondered how you vrs owners with 180bhp + are coping

Cheers

John

N.B I have 185x50x15" alloys

With difficulty...

full throttle in 1st n 2nd is a big no no... wet or dry. can just about manage 3rd if you feed the power in smoothly

In the dry though it's fine, damp conditions 1st/2nd, very wet conditions I wheelspinned into 5th LOL.

That seemed the challenge whilst I test drove it :D

I find that mine will put down the power in 2nd in the wet if in a straight line, although a bump in the road will mean that traction is lost so the ASR cuts in. Boot it in third and bumps will still result in wheelspin, but not as bad. However, if you accelerate hard out of a corner in third, you can get wheelspin fairly easily in the dry!

I must admit though, the eibach springs and dampers definately improve grip both during cornering (I was amazed at the increase in wet weather grip) and during acceleration. Dry roads will be sooo much better though...

I still cant use 2nd... even in the dry... with decent sticky tyres :D

boot it + wet = spin all day

boot it in dry in 3rd....you have a chance lol

So, I ask - hand in mouth - do we need that amount of power if we can't get it down?

John

Even without the remap it's pretty powerfull - with a remap I personally reckon you'll need to upgrade a few more bits :D

Yeah it's hilarious, of course we need the power. The best thing to do is feed it in, that way you'll get a better 0-60 (as when your wheelspinning your not accelerating at the same pace) and better economy :o Obviously only in 1st, maybe second then nail it in 3rd :D

:) - wondering if the strut brace helps in this?

Nope. :) I think the only way is to not simply hoof the throttle 100% of the time. That power, like anything, has to be learned to be used properly - something which can only be done by driving. ;) I now don't have much problem getting 150bhp down on the road, so I want even more power. teehee. :P

 - For some reason my current car only has trouble putting down it's MEGA-power in aquaplaning or snow/ice conditions :D :D :D

Gonna be chasing my dealer again next week regarding when the mid-March delivery will actually materialise ;) - I will be gentle with the new car anyway as I've gotta run it in :)
