MPG again

Featured Replies

In my 2005 1.9TDI Ambiente 57,000 miles I could get 65mpg on the motorway cruising at 70mph.

I have just upgraded to a new (less than a 1000 miles)VRS Estate 2.0TDI currently getting 45mpg on the motorway. Now the brochure states 60mpg, is this achievable? and if so at what level of engine run in?

The 2005 didn't have cruise control, but I use it on the VRS, if this makes a difference.

Mid 50's without trying on motorway using cruise and legal speeds. Over 60 if I try and keeping speed to about 60. From new - now has 6k on it

Was the 2005 a MkII? I reckon the MkI was lighter?

50 something is easily achievable @ steady 75ish Mway driving in mine.

I don't suppose you have a roofbox or bars on?

Enjoy it anyway & welcome to Briskoda BTW! :)

cant really see the point in buying a vrs then tiptoeing around trying to make it economical.

drive it like you mean it and bo&&ocks to the fuel consumption.

I have a VRS Estate TDI Dsg with less than 2k on it.

My commute is four miles across town to the motorway then a further 12 miles - I'm getting a consistant 49 mpg using maxidot for that mixed journey.

I didn't buy it, it's a company car, I have to put private fuel in.

well if skoda didnt fit a pathetic dpf filter which packs in after 2,500 mile i wouldnt have to spank it!

Seems like the same as mine. I've now clocked up 6800 miles and the best I've seen is 53.2 mpg on a gentle run to north Norfolk and back. Just come back from a fully laden trip to Denmark via Eurotunnel, 2160 miles at 46.5mpg. Kept to legal limits + a bit except on the unrestricted sections in Germany where it was 100+.

Normal consumption on mixed roads here tends to be 45-46mpg. How people get in the 60's I will never know. As has alredy been said "the car is meant to be driven"

Find the Maxidot reads about 2 mpg high, always work it out on tankfuls.

To be fair, Skoda/VW don't really have a choice in the matter. All modern diesels from all manufacturers now have a DPF thanks the the EU.

I've not had any problems with mine and I don't spend a great deal of time "spanking" it - admittedly, the majority of the 40000 miles on mine are motorway miles so I'm unlikely to have any issues, but the CR engines were designed with a DPF in mind rather than having them bolted on afterwards like the PD engines did so there should be far fewer issues.

Maybe you should hang a "dpf on board" sign in your rear window when your doing your "Tit Spank" in 3 numbers ! :giggle:

P.S. my dpf is just fine and dandy without the spanky panky

I have just got back from a caravan site near Saltash in Cornwall, 599 miles for 42 liters = 64.83 MPG

PS I did wave at all skoda Octy owners
