PocketPC Sat Nav Install's

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just purchased a HP RX3715, an excellent little unit with all the extras you would expect from a mid range PDA ie, 802.11b wifi, bluetooth etc...

Im going to buy the Bluetooth TomTom sat nav kit next week and was wondering if anyone has the same and has any pic's of decent install's?

The cig power socket is in a bit of a funny position for installing something like this! Is there any easy way of hard wireing?

Cheers

Andy

Not got any pics atm, but I bought a cigar lighter socket doubler from Argooos and ran that from the cigar lighter socket along to the RH side of the centre console. I then used a bit of 'male' velcro stuck on the back of the doubler to stick it to the carpet on the centre console. From there, the cable to my Mio goes up the RH side of the centre console, through a strategically placed bent paper clip, across the bottom of the instrument panel, through another bent paper clip and then up to the mount (attached just inside the A-pillar on the drivers side).

The paper clips are inserted into the gaps between the instrument binnacle and the lower dash.

Sounds (and is) a bit Heath-Robinson, but it works!

If I get time tomorrow I'll try and get some pics.

Mine's on a windscreen sucker mount, in a central position.

Power was origaanlly via a socket doubler, but i hard wired it a few weeks back, taking the supply from the rear of the HeadUnit.

Cables are mostly hidden in the joins in the dash board panels, so very little dismantling was needed.

Will take some pics, possibly tomorrow :)

I'm currently looking at fixing a home-made bracket to the tray under the HU and bolting a mount to that. When coupled with a Bluetooth or CF-based receiver as opposed to my current wired one, there should be no visible wiring at all :)

Have a look at www.pocketgps.co.uk. Lots of pics of instals in various cars on there. Be wary of hard wiring a PDA because of the possibility of damage to the PDA in case some of the gubbins in the supplied cig lighter connector provides protection. There is a warning on www.holux.co.uk (they make GPS receivers) for nav. systems.
