Brake carriers

Featured Replies

Hey guys, change my disc and pads and notice the pins into the carrier were seized on front carriers I managed to free them off but they are still a little sticky what's the best stuff to use to free them back up again I'm assuming I can just buy any lubricant to lie them up again

Thanks

Easyer to buy the pins and bushes, then you know you dont have to keep 'Freeing them up'

Are you sure were on about the same part not the caliper piston, the piston on the carriers just rang skoda £12 each so think I'll take em out an lube them back up

the slide pin which locates the caliper onto the carrier?

Its got a plasic/rubber collor/slide bush round it, with a plastic cap to protect the allen key hole.

Yeah that's the suckers I'll see how it goes freeing them up first, before replacing them

they can be a PITA sometimes, the ones on the Jetta where so old the rubber was not holding them in place and was soo dry they would barely move

Cant help on the grease though im afraid, im always warey on using any grease around the breaks

Yeah that's the suckers I'll see how it goes freeing them up first, before replacing them

Best thing to do is to use some 1500grit wet and dry sandpaper and some oil (wd40 or 3in1) as a lube and sand/polish off the burnt on rubber/crap! Then do a final clean with meths...then put some med (blue) strength loctite on the threads and copper grease on the pin (smooth part) and then refit and remember to do torque the pins upto;;;; B)

FRONT BRAKES:

Guide pin bolts for FSII & FSIII calipers = 28Nm (21lbf ft). Always copper grease for bushes and use "blue" threadlock on threads!

Guide pin bolts for C54-II caliper = 30Nm (22lbf ft).
