Sat Nav

Featured Replies

Hi folks

I wonder if any of you could give me some information on the following.

I wish to retro fit a sat nav to my vrs.

I originally did not get the Amundsen as Skoda told me that it did not accept UK post codes.

There is a new Amundsen + which I am told accepts UK post codes.

Does any one have this new version and what are your views on using this unit.

Also Skoda now retro fit a Kenwood DNX 520.

Does any one have this sat nav fitted and what are views on useing this unit.

Is there any other unit that I should consider.

Thanks in anticiption.

Looks a nice unit, don't think it interfaces with the maxidot though, and doesn't display the parking sensors either if you have them, still get sound though.

I have the amunsden sat nav not the + I got the discs from suk to upgrade mine up to the +, its great 7 digit postcodes and a lot more info, not sure if the maxi-dot will work with a retro fitted sat nav though has to be factory fitted

Or more than likely it will just need some adaptation changes by someone with VCDS.

I have just coded an Octavia that did not have the factory fit Columbus, this was retro-fitted by the owner who then found out the MFD sat nav display did not work - until we re-coded it correctly, it now works just like a factory fitted one

I am a bit confused about this maxi dot display.

I thought this gave information about the operating state of the vehicle.

The hand book says that it only gives information about sat nav if one is fitted and only gives informatio about the radio when it is switched on.

So I and not sure how retro fitting a sat nav would effect the rest of the display.

Perhaps you could explain.

I don't think it affects the maxidot display as such, just that it doesn't show up on the display like the factory fitted one does.

When they are retro-fitted you do not get the symbols on the maxidot (turn left at roundabout, countdown to junction, ETA, etc) which IMO are a useful addition to the sat nav, but as I say this should be able to be activated with a bit of VCDS coding
