how to get wires from inside to engine bay?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I could really use your help :)

I have a 2002 Skoda fabia and want install a CB radio in the car, but how do I get the power cables from inside the car to the engine bay?

I have looked and cannot see how I can get the wires through.

Thanks for your help

Matt

Behind the glovebox

Yup, remove the glovebox (3 or 4 screws) and you'll be able to get them through the bulkhead and down the side to the battery.

Do I have to take the glovebox out? or do you mean under the footwell behind the glovebox?

I really appreciate your time,

Thanks

Damn sight easier if you do! Only takes a couple of minutes to remove!

Remove the glovebox. Open it, and look at the top just behind where the door sits, you'll see the screws. Undo these and it will come out. It's a 2 minute job.

thanks for helping guys!!!

Matt

I can never remember which type they are as there are several around the car that are different.

I've just got one of those multi-sets from the pound shop and there is usually one that fits :D

it's a torx fitting

Thanks for that, once i get the glovebox out do i have to drill a hole to get to engine bay or is there already a hole there?

Thanks again guys

MAtt

IIRC there is a grommet under there already.

Torx T20 to remove the glovebox. 5-6 screws from memory.

If you look in the engine bay, at the bulkhead, you'll see there's a black rubber grommet. You can pass a cable through here and then collect it on the other side, with the glovebox off.

As said, start in the engine bay with the power cable and work it into the cabin. Not the other way round.

You won't see if from the other side it's behind foam insulation. Take the scuttle trim off and you can see the grommet, it's where the bonnet release cable goes through when the steering wheel is on the other side.

Good time to clean out all the leaves and junk too I suspect :D

I previously used the washer tube hole underneath the glovebox beneath the ABS pump for alarm wires. Would be a bit too small to pass thick power cables for an amp through though.

Thanks guys! I did it, think i blew up the CB in the process though :(
